Walls with zig zag border
Paint the walls in warm shades or red and cream. Create a border using a zigzag template. Pencil the design onto the wall, and then paint in contrasting colours.
Luxurious bed
Drape rich and luxurious fabrics across the bed. To make cheap bed covers and curtains, recycle old fabrics such as old velvet curtains. Sew the fabric together and attach beads to the ends.
Window dressing
To enhance the feeling of romance in the room, use soft red muslin fabric to make curtains. If you like a dark room install a white or red blind to help block out the daylight.
Unusual wardrobes
Turn the wardrobe into a feature. Give it a simple pointed roof rather than a normal horizontal one. Decorate it to match the room.

Paint the walls pale blue. Below dado rail height, paint the walls a slightly darker colour. Using a paint effect such as ragging is a great way to introduce texture into the room.

Dress the bed in soft white linen. Add a couple of lilac and purple cushions at the head end.

Make shutters for the windows to match the headboard. Construct the shutters out of tongue and groove and then white wash. Spray decorative hinges silver to match the room and screw to the front of the shutters.

Construct a low Chinese-style bed from reclaimed scaffold planks. Plane, sand, and stain the wood and create a simple but effective bed-head using another scaffold board sanded, shaped and fixed to the wall

Give existing mirror doors a Chinese look by spray painting them green and then cladding them with patterned MDF cut out in a bamboo shape.
